Prospective Member Checklist

Introduction
Although our membership process is self selecting, we do require that you have fully studied and considered the prospect of living in Heartwood Cohousing. This Prospective Member Checklist is intended to ensure that you have done that. We feel that if you fully understand and consider what it is that you are getting into, you are the one best qualified to determine if you will be a good member of the community and if the community will be good for you.
To qualify for Heartwood membership, you must complete this Prospective Member Checklist and own a home or lot or be a renter at Heartwood.
Please print out this checklist and fill it in as you complete the various requirements. One checklist is required per adult in the household. You must complete the checklist in good faith and submit it to the Membership Team. Once they've reviewed it and found it to be complete, you will become a member of Heartwood Cohousing. The Membership team may decide to waive or modify certain requirements due to extenuating circumstances as long as you have given full and careful consideration to becoming a member.
Participation

2) In order to help you make connections within the community, please post a bio of your household to the Heartwood chat before your visit to Heartwood (only one needed per household). Please check off once completed: ________________
3) Attend one Community Meeting and two other functions (any of our organized events including Common Meals, Potlucks, Community Meetings, Meetings of the Hearts, Team Meetings, Wisdom Circles, Parties, Work Parties, etc.). Two of the functions attended must be at least two weeks apart. Please list type and date of functions:

Study & Consideration
1) Read one or both of the following books and check off that you've read it:

2) Read all of the the Heartwood Cohousing Agreements. (Agreements are located in the Who We Are section of our website.) Please check off once completed: ________________
3) Complete the Membership Questionnaire and submit it to the Membership Team before meeting with them. To submit questionnaire to the team, either email it to the team email chat (heartwoodmembershipteam@yahoogroups.com) or to the Heartwood chat (hwcnews@yahoogroups.com) or snail mail it to Heartwood Membership Team, 800 Heartwood Lane, Bayfield, CO, 81122. Declaration of Agreement & Commitment
Read the following declaration and sign below.
I have thoroughly familiarized myself with the Heartwood Cohousing Agreements. I understand that in the future the community may consider it appropriate to modify some of the Agreements, but at this time I fully endorse them and agree to abide by them. Furthermore, I commit to actively participate in community life and work on the advancement of Heartwood Cohousing.

Membership Team Review
Within one week of receiving this checklist, the Membership team will review all requirements for completion and inform the prospective member of the outcome. Please note any requirements waived or modified or other comments.
The prospective member currently (check off one of the following):
_________ Owns a home and/or lot at Heartwood.
_________ Rents a home at Heartwood.
(If the prospective member does not yet own or rent at Heartwood, this otherwise completed checklist will be held on file until that happens, at which time the prospective member will become a member. The checklist will be held on file for up to one year. After that time, the prospective member must complete the checklist again before becoming eligible for membership.)
