Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we go for shopping and entertainment?
Bayfield (5 minutes away) has a great little coffee shop, banks, a few decent restaurants, a good hardware store, a new library, a not-so-good grocery store, a drug store, a big farm equipment store, a real nice saloon, and the other basic services you’d expect in a town of 1600 people. Durango (20 - 30 minutes away) has all kinds of stores and restaurants. There are several good health food stores (one of which is building a brand new store in 2008 about 20 minutes from Heartwood), great restaurants, several movie theaters (including one that features independent films) and Fort Lewis College where the concert hall has a full schedule of good shows.
Of course a lot of the entertainment happens right here at Heartwood. Folks usually linger long after the common meals are over visiting with neighbors or working on a jigsaw puzzle. Someone will often bring a DVD to the common house on Friday night and we’ll gather around the home theater. And we have several music and other “homemade” shows every year.
