Bayfield is located approximately two miles east of Heartwood Cohousing.  Bayfield is a laid back, rural town of about 1700 people -- formerly a ranching town and now a growing bedroom community to Durango.

Bayfield boasts a nice drugstore, a good hardware store, some other nice shops, and some decent restaurants, including a couple of tasty Mexican restaurants and a brew pub.  There’s a grocery store, but we’re hoping for something better.  The coffee shop is very good and is a real town gathering spot.

A new high school, middle school, park, library, and town hall have been recently built and the elementary school is only 8 years old.  School bus service is available from Heartwood.  There will certainly be many more exciting changes on the horizon now that Heartwood’s very own Jack McGroder is an intern with the Town of Bayfield.
