We provide this information to give an idea of who we are.  It in no way suggests that we are seeking new members who match our current demographics.  We welcome all people who share our Vision: “To create and live in a community which fosters harmony with each other, the larger community, and Nature.”


Here’s an excerpt from our Vision and Values agreement, “Respect - We respect the freedom of each person to live as he/she chooses, so long as that doesn't interfere with others in the community to do the same. We respect personal privacy. We respect diversity in ideology, spirituality, interests, talents, beliefs, opinions, race, age, income, and so on. And we welcome expressions of that diversity.”

Sexual Orientation

This is not necessarily publicly shared information so the data is sketchy, but it seems that almost all members are heterosexual, although we have had numerous gay and bisexual residents over the years, mostly women.

Employment

People tend to choose to live in southwest Colorado for the quality of life, not for the employment opportunities that one would find in a big city.  As you can see in the following table, we have a wide diversity of employment represented.  Many of us have carved out our own niche making a living as entrepreneurs working from our homes.

Animal Population

All of the animals are privately owned, some individually and some by groups of people.

  


 

Age & Gender

We are a family oriented community with many children, parents, and elders.  Our current population is 73 with a rough breakdown as follows (see graph below for a more detailed breakdown):


We have 9 adult members who are single and 34 who are married.  Most of the adult members are parents, many currently raising their children at Heartwood and some empty nesters.  We also have some adult members who have never had children.

There are currently 23 owner households and 2 renter households.
