Who Lives Here

Here’s a little information on who lives here, what they do, and what teams they’re on:

#1    Sean Madden, Kim Self and Xander

#2    Julie Madden

Julie lives here with her cat, Chollah.  She is on the Design Review team and the Process & Communication team.  She enjoys hiking and watching movies.

 

 

#3    Julie Goodman and Scott Kuster and their children, Amanda and Bekah.

Julie’s interests include mediation/conflict resolution, cards and board games, and reading.  Julie is on the Process & Communication team.

Scott’s interests include politics, social justice, teaching, swimming and yoga.  He also helps raise the chickens.  He is on the Steering team.

Amanda loves music, dance, and skiing.  She’s one of the “Juggling Gems”, a group of Heartwood girls who juggle together.  Bekah likes to play with her best friend, Addy, and juggle.

#4    Ronda Ramsier and Jack McGroder

Ronda and Jack take care of the village green. They’re both members of the Woodworkers Guild.  They love anything that takes them outdoors.  Ronda loves to build things, work-out, and dance.  She is an RN and the community’s de-facto emergency room nurse.  Her son, Lee is at Mesa State College in Grand Junction.

Jack is on the Pasture And Ag team.

#5    Pete and Mary Nast

#6    Laurie Lauer and her daughter, Kyla

They live here with their cats Sammy and Isis.  Laurie is a massage therapist and office manager for a guest ranch.  She loves cooking, yoga, growing things and adventures in the outdoors.

Kyla is one of the “Juggling Gems”.  She loves to read, watch movies, knit and travel.

#7    Lynne McGee and Bevan Williams

They live here with Lynne’s dog, Chloe.  Lynne is on the Garden & Greenhouse team.  She is also the leader for the Common House team.  Her interests include:  hiking, skiing, designing and creating “Art to Wear”, personal growth conversations, good books, prayer circle, and hospice opportunities.  She also helps raise the chickens.  Bevan and Lynne are passionate about growing and selling local, organic food.  Bevan is our resident gardening guru.

#8    Fran Hart and her children, Kaila and Ian

Fran enjoys skiing, camping, gardening, hiking, wreath making and the winter holiday season, social change/new social systems, and NVC communication.  She’s a professional bookkeeper.

Kaila is an avid mountain bike racer and enjoys knitting and piano.

Ian enjoys being a boy (boy play).

#9    Lyn and Barry Goldberg

Lyn is the team leader for the Design Review team.  She’s also on the Process & Communication and Pasture & Ag teams.  She is an astrologer and loves gardening and taking walks.

Barry is on the Common Facilities team.  He takes care of our drinking and irrigation water systems.

They both enjoy hiking and working on the pasture.  They own three llamas that they use for backpacking in the mountains.

#10    Anne Bartlett, Jeroen van Tyn, and their children, Jem, Naima, and Teo

They live with their dog, Lena.  Their home has a big dance studio added to the back that is sometimes used for community dance, yoga, etc.

Jeroen is a member of the P&C team, CFT and the Woodworkers Guild.  He is a passionate musician.  He commutes to Minneapolis, MN to work as a business consultant.

Anne is on the Membership and Process and Communication teams.  Anne is a dancer, choreographer, and dance teacher.  She’s also a full time at-home mother.

Jem and Naima love both dancing and playing music in their new home studio!  Teo loves smiling and being the youngest and cutest member of the community.  They all enjoy playing outside and hiking on the land.

#11    Dick and Gay Grossman

The Grossman’s live here with their dog, Jada.

Gay is on the Pasture & Ag team, Land Stewardship team, and the Garden & Greenhouse team.  She has 2 horses, Shiloh and Missy.  Gay’s interests are teaching, nature education, music, gardening, reading, and films.

Dick is on the Common Facilities team.  Dick is an OB/Gyn Physician.  His interests include medicine, writing, and environmental issues.  He has a monthly column, “Population Matters” that appears in the Durango Herald and also on the Heartwood Chat.

Both Gay and Dick love to hike, ski, sail, travel, and grandparent!  And they have a cabin (Heartwood North) near Ridgway which they generously lend out to Heartwood friends.

#12    Rebecca Arnold, Mark Muller and Auria

#13    Michael and Beth Walker and their children, Shannon and Jesse

They live with their two cats, Buick and Maui.

Michael enjoys drumming, swimming, singing, playing the guitar gardening, and good conversation.  Michael helps the Membership team with Membership Questionnaire discussions.  He has a growth counseling practice.

Beth is on the Design Review team and is leader for the Process and Communication team. She likes to sing, knit, draw, paint, write, laugh, and tell whoppers.

Shannon loves singing, gymnastics, Girl Scouts, and planning celebrations of all kinds.  Shannon is on the Celebration team.  She’s also one of the “Juggling Gems”.

Jesse likes aikido, skateboarding, riding the BMX track, playing basketball, reading, inventing contraptions of all kinds, and learning about science.

#15    Gail Davidson

Gail has an international home based business focusing on health and financial wellness.  She is also a business coach specializing in the network marketing industry.

She is a member of the Pasture and Ag team and owns 2 of the 5 llamas that are in the pasture.  They are Kiowa, who is all white and Quizzer, who is brown and white.  She takes them backpacking in the mountains.

Gail loves hiking with or without the llamas, camping, snowboarding, snowshoeing, social activities in Durango, and visiting her four sons and grandchildren.

#16    Mac and Sandy Thomson and their children, Helen, Al, and Joe

They live with their dog, Sadie.

Mac works on the trails.  He’s the former project manager of Heartwood and is currently working on the development of Phase 2.  He also is a member of the Woodworkers Guild.  His interests include hiking, camping, white water rafting, tennis, snowboarding, skiing, Ultimate Frisbee, hot tubbing, woodworking, and photography.

Sandy is on the Garden & Greenhouse, Common House, and Celebration teams and is the Welcome Wagon lady.  She writes the Heartwood Times newsletter that is distributed through the website.  She also writes a monthly column called “Cooking for Community” for the cohousing online magazine.  Her interests include gardening, beekeeping, raising chickens, learning, kids, nature, cooking, reading, writing, backpacking, and hiking.

Helen loves skiing, singing, and animals of all kinds.  Helen is on the Celebration team and is one of the “Juggling Gems”.

Al likes to skateboard, ride the BMX track, listen to music, play guitar, snowboard, and go to school.  Lately he’s been getting into soccer and rock climbing.

Joe loves anything active: skiing, running, jumping, talking, climbing, biking.  He says the darndest things and likes to play wrestle and tickle with his dad.  He loves nothing better than to by read to by his mom.

#18    Zita Xavier and Jeff Markel

Zita specializes in natural healing — working with Spirit, Nature, deep listening, herbs, flower, gem, and place essences, and body work.  She is passionate about helping people reconnect with the Earth.

Jeff is the Managing Director for Vitamin Angels Alliance, an international non-profit relief organization that provides essential nutrients for people in need in more than 80 countries. He is also a business consultant and dabbles in real estate. He loves sports, especially playing golf, cooking, and poetry.  He’s on the Steering team and the Pasture & Ag team.

#19    Dave and Sue Austin and their children, Robin, Katie, and Nick

Sue is a Nurse working with kids in Durango. She is on the Garden & Greenhouse Team and Common House Team.

Dave is a lawyer and internet business owner.  He is on the LST and is interested in camping, hiking, flyfishing and skiing. He is a member of the local LaPlata County Search and Rescue Team

Robin goes to school in Durango and loves Mountain Biking with the local DEVO U19 Mountain Bike Team.

Kate also goes to school in Durango and likes to do ice skating and spend time outdoors.

Nick also likes to do yoga and ride his bike.

#21    Sondra Joyce and her son, Joren

They live here with their dog Theo, their aquarium of fish and 3 leopard geckos.

Sondra’s interests include helping people find their dream homes, skiing, children, exercising, and international travel.  Sondra owns her own real estate business, REJOYCE Real Estate Co.  She is on the Celebration team and the Steering Team.

Joren is an avid skier, soccer player, and builder.

#22    Jeff and Mary Walker and their daughter, Joan

Their son, Daniel is now going to college in Durango at Fort Lewis college.  They have a dog named Jenny and Joan has a frog named Zak.

Mary is on the Finance team.  She enjoys hiking, skiing, and yoga.

Jeff has an internet marketing business.  He likes mountain biking, skiing, tennis, kayaking, and rafting.

Joan likes skiing, mountain biking, all arts and crafts, and school.

#23    Tom and Carin Garcia and their children, Gabriel, Brianna,  and Keely, and houseguest, Jim Wilson.

Their daughter, Nikki also goes to Fort Lewis College, studying to be an elementary school teacher for at-risk children.  She loves to work with kids, snowboard, and travel.  She will need to marry a wealthy man.  They share their home with Cass, the Golden Retriever, who is top dog in the family.

Carin is a mom, caterer, and artist. She loves to cook, entertain, and create parties.  Carin is passionate about her family, politics, dancing, and travel.  She is on the Common House and Celebration teams.  She was an active leader for the Obama campaign and is humbled by his victory.

Tom is a devoted husband, father, chiropractor, and personal growth workshop leader.  He is involved with the ManKind Project and men’s circles.  Tom loves reading, writing, connecting with people, backpacking, keeping fit, and spending time with family.  He yearns for quiet moments.

Gabriel loves skateboarding, basketball, Play Station 2, reading, hanging out with his friends, and sleepovers.  He can often be found in the cupboards looking for snacks.

Brianna loves dance, cooking, tea parties w/Ted & Mimi, juggling, performing, and playing dress up.  She is an ardent fairy-house creator.

Keely loves bike riding, cooking, music, and high fashion.  She will have a tattoo and a Harley when she is 16 (in her dreams).

Cass, the dog, loves to eat, sleep, go on car rides and walks, and be amongst other dogs and humans.  His consumption of dog food is enormous.
