by Nisargo Troy On June 14th Heartwood celebrated its 25th Anniversary. Twenty-five years ago the first Heartwood members were able to move into their brand new homes. It was the result of six years of hard work by a determined group of founding members who carried a vision of creating a place where people would live together in a community that fosters harmony with each other, the larger community, and nature (from our Vision and Values Agreement).  A look back to 1999, when Heartwood’s first groundbreaking was celebrated.  The north end, as we call it now, is being built. Fast forward to June 14, 2025 and we had reason to celebrate yet another exciting event: the groundbreaking of the long anticipated Phase 2. With shovels and spades, the first digging took place on the land that will offer homes to 14 more families to join us. Plenty of reason to toast to this day!  Celebrating Phase 2 Groundbreaking!  Many people came to celebrate with us this special day!  Old, present and new members, as well as visitors spreading out on the common house terrace. On a quiet evening two weeks prior we had come together to honor the land with a beautiful ceremony, expressing gratitude to the land and all the creatures living here, so we may be able to welcome more friends to Heartwood soon. The ground has been prepared, new infrastructure is being completed and construction of the 14 Phase 2 homes will begin soon.  Preparing Phase 2 homesites.  And with a little bit of time, more pathways lined with beautiful houses, like these on the Phase 1 west end, will have been created, ready for new members to move in and add to our special community.
