The Meals We Share

Good Food, Even Better Neighbors

There's a particular kind of comfort in knowing you don't have to cook everynight and that every week you can sit down with your neighbors to share a meal. In cohousing, meals aren't just about food. They're one of the threads that tie us together, giving us a reason to check in with our neighbors on a Wednesday, a chance celebrate a milestone or simply a nice chance to take a meal outside of your house without going out to a restaraunt.

At Heartwood, we break bread many different times throughout the year, from our weekly common meal, to our Friday potlucks, to our big and small holiday gatherings.

A potluck celebrating the 25th year anniversay of Heartwood!

Weekly Common Meals

Every Wednesday, a small team of neighbors plans, shops and cooks dinner for the whole community. You sign up to cook or clean a handful of times a year and the rest of the time you just show up. No dishes, no stress, just a delicious, healthy meal with friends to break up your busy week.

"I don't even sign up because of what's on the menu, I sign up because I know I'm going to eat dinner with some of my very best friends and neighbors" - Gail (HW Member)

Friday Potlucks

Every Friday, people bring whatever they're in the mood to make or whatever they happen to have in the house. No advanced sign-up, no assigned menu, just whatever and whoever shows up at the table. It's relaxed, a little unpredictable, and always delicious. Many people find themselves heading over a little early to see who might be around for a pre-dinner cocktail.

Join us for a meal! Every 4th Friday of the month we invite anyone to come tour Heartwood and attend a potluck. Bring a dish if you'd like, or just bring yourself. Optional tour at 5PM, dinner at 6:30PM.

Holiday Gatherings

There are many other occassions  throughout the year that give us a chance to all come together and celebrate over a meal. Whether it's a birthday, an easter brunch, or a Thanksgiving dinner, it's a chance to bring everyone together once again. The food is delicious as always and the tables are just a little more decorated than usual.

Sharing meals is one of the oldest ways humans build trust and belonging. In cohousing, we get to practice that not once a year, but every week — and that habit shapes everything else about how we live alongside each other.

We hope to share a meal with you soon!
