New Homes are Popping Up at Heartwood
During the many months of installing roads, water systems, and sewer systems and then excavating homesites and pouring foundations, visible progress was slow and not too dramatic. That has all changed now that the framers have gotten to work.
I am delighted with the quality of workmanship of all of our subs, but our framing crew is something special. It's obvious they are extremely experienced and care deeply about the quality of their work.
They have been able to frame one our charming 1,100 sf Juniper cottage-homes in less than a week. Our quality control inspectors have been very impressed with the forethought and quality of the framing. The framers have now gotten to work on our first Ponderosa home, which is 2,600 sf and super functional and flexible, with an ADU option available.
Given how fast a home gets framed, they seem to be popping up almost daily. Suddenly the vision of the neighborhood is taking shape in 3D right before our eyes.
New Phase 2 homes are popping up giving shape to the new neighborhood. For efficiency and quality, the front of the second story of or first Ponderosa home was assembled across the pathway and then hoisted by crane and set in place.
And it fit perfectly. I am continually awed by the skill and craftsmanship of our builders.
As homes take shape, one of the things I enjoy is to see for the first time what the views will be out of the various windows. Here you can see the gorgeous view across the valley all the way to New Mexico out of the owner bedroom of the new Ponderosa home.
February 15 Virtual Tour
Every month on the 15th we offer a live virtual tour of Heartwood on Zoom. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about Heartwood, see our beautiful little slice of paradise, meet community members, and have your questions answered – all without having to actually make a trip here.
It's your best first step to begin your exploration. To register for next Sunday's virtual tour, click on the registration button below.
After the framers complete their work, the plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians get to work. Here is wiring ready to be connected to the breaker panel.
Ductwork being installed for our state-of-the-art heating and cooling systems. All of the Phase 2 homes will be net zero ready, meaning that they utilize a holistic approach that minimizes energy consumption and maximizes comfort.
New Explorer Program
Are you seeking a life of connection with neighbors and nature? Heartwood’s Phase 2 expansion offers a rare chance to join our established community on 360 acres in sunny southwest Colorado.
Time is critical: we have limited homes left, including highly desirable forest-edge lots. By committing now, you can still select your own custom upgrades like flooring, cabinets, and countertops.
We understand that moving to a cohousing community is a big decision. That’s why we created the Explorer Program. During the 90-day personalized guided exploration, you’ll learn about community life at Heartwood, connect with current members, and explore the opportunity to join Phase 2. As part of the Explorer experience, you’ll be invited to visit our community, giving you time to meet neighbors, walk the land, tour the Phase 2 homes under construction, and experience daily life in a real, grounded way.
Ready to explore? Call Christina at 970-235-9196 to learn more about the Explorer Program and our remaining Phase 2 homes.
Drone photo from yesterday (Friday, Feb 6) showing the new Phase 2 homes in the foreground and the Heartwood common house and north wing homes in the upper left. There's a concrete pumper rig to the far right. Phase 2 is buzzing with activity. (No, the Phase 2 homes will not have bright green roofs. That's a protective water barrier that goes on before the metal roof.)
Another view from above of Phase 2 taking shape. This one was taken from one of our trails. Phase 2 homes are to the left and Phase 1 homes are to the right. If you look carefully, you can see the tennis and pickleball court to the right in front of the Phase 1 homes.
One of the highlights of my week was coming upon the concrete crew holding a Friday afternoon fish fry on site. Their coming together for food, community, and celebration was perfectly fitting, given the neighborhood they're helping to build.
Yours in Community,
Mac (Phase 2 Project Manager)
