We provide this information to give an idea of who we are. It in no way suggests that we are seeking new members who match our current demographics. If anything, we very much welcome families with kids as many of our kids who grew up at Heartwood have gone off to college and to lives on their own. We welcome all people who share our Vision: “To create and live in a community which fosters harmony with each other, the larger community, and Nature.”
Here’s an excerpt from our Vision & Values: “Respect – We respect the freedom of each person to live as he/she chooses, so long as that doesn't interfere with others in the community to do the same. We respect personal privacy. We respect diversity in ideology, spirituality, interests, talents, beliefs, opinions, race, age, income, and so on. And we welcome expressions of that diversity.”
We are a family-oriented, multigenerational community. Our population typically varies between 50 and 65 people. There are many pets, as well as various farm animals from time to time including chickens, donkeys, llamas, horses, and cattle.
Once upon a time we had about 25 or 30 children of the founding members living here. Those kids have now grown and gone, but a new wave of young families is moving in. Consistent with our Colorado lifestyle, our seniors are an incredibly active and vibrant group. They are engaged in all manner of cultural and outdoor activities. Good luck keeping up with them on a mountain hike or snowshoe adventure!
Most adult members are college educated and work in a wide variety of professions including nursing, social work, online marketing, accounting, legal, teaching, and construction. Many of our members work online from home.
