Renewable Energy Fund
June 24, 2009
Posted Decision
We approved by consensus the following proposal:
Heartwood Renewable Energy Fund will be established to receive voluntary contributions. People may consider making contributions to offset their carbon footprints. Contributions can either be made on a monthly basis or as a one-time per year contribution (or both). The money will be held in the Heartwood general fund and will be accounted for and billed in the same way the Humanitarian Fund is. The fund is meant to be used to promote energy independence of the residents of Heartwood; a solar thermal system for the Common House or a large photovoltaic array are examples. If this is not possible, then the fund can be used to offset greenhouse gas emissions in other ways, such as planting trees. If a team is set up specifically to deal with solar energy at Heartwood, disbursements will be made by this team. If there is no such team, disbursements must be approved by the Common Facilities team. Criteria for disbursements will include that a supported project would be for renewable energy and would benefit the community.
