Welcome to Heartwood!
Because we want you to feel at home during your stay, we are offering the following general information to help orient you to the community.
Driving and Parking
We have a requested speed limit of 20 mph on Heartwood Lane (to keep the road in good shape) and 10 mph in the cluster (to keep kids and pets safe). You may park in the parking lot closest the house you are staying in.
Common House
Please feel free to explore and make use of the Common House.
Mail
Mail is delivered in the early afternoon. Packages that don’t fit in the mailboxes are in the cabinet on the right below the cubbies. Outgoing mail goes in the cabinet below the mailboxes. The cubbies are for items that are not delivered by the Post Office.
Common Meals
Common meals happen Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. If you would like to attend, it is necessary to sign up on the sheet in the mailroom below the bulletin board a couple of days in advance, and before the column has been highlighted (indicating the cooks have finalized the count for shopping purposes). Please note the number of adults and children who will be attending at the bottom of the column (you will be counted as guests). When you arrive for dinner, you may pay by putting $5 per adult and $3 per child in the donations jar. There is also a free community potluck every Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Pets
We request that all visiting pets be kept on a leash or under voice/sight control at all times in the cluster. Pets are not allowed in the Common House. Please clean up after your pet.
Trash, Compost, Recycling
Trash goes in the big blue dumpster in the parking lot northeast of the Common House.
Cardboard may be recycled in the bin across from the dumpster in the parking lot northeast of the Common House.

The Land, and Other Community Structures
- Hot Tub: Located northwest of the village green (follow the path!). See our Hot Tub Guidelines. Please bathe before soaking. After soaking, run a clean cycle, and close and latch the lid.
- Greenhouse: Located across the lane east of the Common House. Some produce in the greenhouse is for community consumption. It will be labeled as such.
- The Land: We have 360 acres of pasture and woodlands available for exploration. Ask around for directions to “The Loop” (a 1.7 mile trail north of the cluster) or other trails, or adventure on your own.
